Warhammer Fest Day 1
Official Link
It seems like every year we see more and more cosplayers showing up at Warhammer HQ and it seems like the community leads at this Manchester event are taking it more seriously than ever before.
Having worked with one of the original Space Marine suit creators, Terry Scrinjar, it's incredible to see what 3d Printing now allows people almost 5 years after his original stilt/foam engineering.
Our stealthy XV25 makes an appearance!
But it's all about the models and it looks like we've got a few awesome targets to start thinking about obliterating in the years to come.
The Y'he (Tyranids) are out in force.
The following models are described as encounters in the "current" 40k timeline during the Fourth Tyrannic War slamming into the western part of the Galaxy.
Far from the Eastern Fringe (I don't think you can get much further) we likely won't play a part unless one of our further flung agents somehow encounters this new tendril of the primary Hive Fleet.
That said, Darius Hinks is apparently writing the tie-in Novel (Hey, when are the Leagues going to get a book?!?) and he's usually pretty incorporative for all the factions (I bet you we'll get a nod to Kroot!).
The Screamer-Killer
Carnifexes were originally known as "Screamer-Killers" who would emit a telltale scream before belching bio-plasma at you. This evolved into a unique strain and, now, we have an enormous model that blends a few types of Tyranids from the last three decades together.Next up is the new entry: Tyranid Prime
"The Winged Tyranid Prime is a hideous alpha-beast that combines strength with agility, swooping above the battlefield and identifying targets to descend upon and tear apart with razor-sharp talons." ~Warcom
The word "prime" gets dallied around and it looks like the Tyranids have eaten enough Primaris to don the name. Looks like a Tyranid Warrior type that has wings and borrows some abilities from Hive Tyrants.
As we know, having little guys around covering your six keeps you more capable and alive longer. Looks like the Tyranids learned something from Gorgon.
Von Ryan Leapers look like new, smaller, Lictors.
"Neurogaunts are a variant strain of gaunt, that share a symbiotic relationship with the parasitic neurocytes that cling to their backs. Their primary purpose is to protect the powerful synapse creatures that coordinate the Tyranid invasion, and they will sacrifice themselves in droves to fulfil this task." ~Warcom
Honestly, these are my favorite. I love everything about these. I'll probably pick up a box just for the sake of having them. They remind me of the Hive Guard which was one of my favorite models growing up:
Next is the Barbgaunt... I'm not a fan. Too busy and it feels out of place in the general style of the Tyranids.
Last is the Psychophage. We won't be seeing much of this since it hungers for psykers but it's a cool model unless we start getting some of our Auxialiary races in rule/model form.
"The Hive Mind has imbued this particular biomorph with a hunger for enemy psykers, its digestive tract somehow able to metabolise psychic lifeforms into psychocorrosive ash, which it projects forward in blistering torrents." ~Warcom
To close out this NewsCaste I'm happy to at least know when we're going to get our next Codex!
